Transgender

I learned so much after reading the article Trans Woman Manifesto as well as watching the video Beautiful Daughters. I never realized that so many people were transgender. It hurts to watch how badly these people suffer and how hard their lives are at times because of judgmental people. I just don’t understand how come people are so cruel at times and what makes them think they are so much better based on looks and beliefs.  In the video Beautiful Daughters one lady explains that from school of elementary up was abuse for her, only because she was a boy but had no knowledge of sports and had no intention of getting involved. She goes on to explain that the bullying didn’t cause her to change her sex; she entered this world knowing she wanted to be a woman. These people are born with this intention, they know what they want and can’t do anything about that. Why should they be punished for pursuing a dream of theirs? For example we don’t criticize people for wanting to pursue a dream of playing college football or becoming an actor because those both are seen as normal. It’s hard for people to open up about being transgender which makes their lives much harder. Transphobia is a terrible thing and if transgender people could open up more often and feel comfortable about it then cisgender people may realize that they should be accepting of their decisions.

  1. It hurt me a lot that one of the women said "you stop expecting people to love you" because everyone should expect that no matter what.

It was also really said when another woman said that she felt so lonely and isolated because she didn't want people to find out about her past. We shouldn't live in a society where people can't freely be who they are. I know I wouldn't want to live like that. It is just really upsetting that many people are still afraid to be who they really are because of things like transphobia and all that.

  2. I agree that transgender people should open up more. However, I think it's up to cisgender people to open up to them first. No one is going to open up if they don't feel comfortable or welcomed. It's such a difficult topic because like you said, you can't always tell when someone is transgender and they fit in with society so well! and that's a good thing! But sadly, that means they can hide from society too and I think cisgender people need to make the first move to welcome transgender and start to diminish transphobia.
